In the age of retro furniture, blanket chests are making a comeback, but still, it is not to the extent that they were used earlier. Most homes are doing without these for want of space, and because there are so many other options to store their blankets. The settees that are in vogue in small houses are taking care of the added storage space, and there are several people who are putting their blankets in large cabinets too. Add to that, blanket chests are expensive, because they are usually made with the best quality wood.
Wood: Those made from hardboard (a material made up of highly compressed wooden fibers) are popular, and a relatively cheaper option. However, they retain moisture and are not a good choice for heavy equipment. Wood-based composites like particle boards or medium-density fiber boards are also commonly used. Composite fiber boards are a better option and long-lasting, but too much of weight can damage them.
After you have the measurements of the wood, find a location in a convenient area around the house. Construct it close to a door, window or next to your wood burning fireplace, for ease of transport. Remember that you have to find a place where there is enough sunshine, is clean, dry, and free from pests.
